Andrew Visnevski directs Vladimiros Kyriakides in Richard III

One of the greatest plays of world drama, William Shakespeare's "The Tragedy of King Richard III", opens the 2027–2028 Athens theatrical season, with Vladimiros Kyriakides in the title role and produced by Tagaris Theatre Operations.

Article: news247.gr

The iconic and demanding role of Richard, a deeply complex character that offers the actor the opportunity to illuminate the darkest aspects of human nature, is undertaken by Vladimiros Kyriakides.

The new production is created by the internationally acclaimed theatre director Andrew Visnevski. In "The Tragedy of King Richard III," William Shakespeare composes one of the darkest and most exciting portraits in theatre history of power illicitly attained and abused. Manipulation, political intrigues, betrayals and murders make up a relentless march to the throne of England. Despite the passage of ages, "The Tragedy of King Richard III," one of the great historical tragedies of the Bard, remains to this day an incisive commentary on the nature of power and of human ambition.

Director Andrew Visnevski is among the most important figures in contemporary European theatre. Founder of the historic and groundbreaking Cherub Company London (1978-2003), over more than 40 years of theatre-making, he has developed a theatrical style of his own that combines classical dramaturgy with an intensely physical and visual stage language. At the same time, as well as directing, he has played a key role in theatre education: he has been head of postgraduate programmes and a key teacher at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London and held workshops on Shakespeare's performance in many countries. His relationship with Greece is long and substantial, as he has collaborated with important Greek artists in several creative fields and has directed in our country since the 1980s.

More information on the distribution, cast and the dates of the show will be announced soon.

Kafka's THE TRIAL

Directed by Drigan Lee

from April 19 to May 6, 2018

Kafka’s THE TRIAL is an unusual crime drama—one in which a man is arrested by an unidentified authority for an unnamed crime. Josef K is constantly harassed, persecuted, and punished. He tries to make sense of his circumstances but finds no assurances, no relief. His appeals to authority are continually squashed. He is forced not only to find his way out of a cruel labyrinth that offers no clues for escape but also to assess his responsibility for what unfolds.

Join Sextant Productions for the staging of this strange, comic and poignant tale of one man’s absurd quest to be given the rights of a citizen and afforded the dignity of a human being. Our prize-winning adaptation by Andrew Visnevski of Kafka’s unforgettable novel will open this spring on the Cherry Lane Studio Stage. Directed by Drigan Lee, Kafka’s THE TRIAL runs from April 19 to May 6, 2018.
